Innovation
Bagatelos Architectural Glass Systems recognizes that the foundation of a successful unitized system/façade is innovation and accuracy throughout the entire lifecycle of each project. From initial estimate through design engineering, manufacturing and installation, BAGS in-house team is vertically integrated and works seamlessly with architects, contractors and partners to meet and creatively address each projects aesthetic, performance, financial and schedule requirements.
Design Engineering
BAGS has developed an extensive in-house design group that works seamlessly with Architects from concept to BIM production, delivering custom, code-compliant solutions. We believe that early technical input from the exterior team is critical to ensuring the most cost-effective, buildable solutions to address the complexity of today’s façade requirements.
The company’s in-house design and engineering team works exclusively in a Building Information Modeling (BIM) environment and leverages Lean Manufacturing methodology to achieve as little waste as possible, while increasing efficiency and overall customer value. This commitment to Lean, value engineering and cutting waste is achieved through the adoption of emerging design tools, constant education and extensive training to incorporate the existing best practices of industry leading manufacturers.
Driven by a commitment to innovation and the development of an extensive research and development team, the company is advancing into 5D BIM, intelligent linking of 3D CAD components and assemblies with schedule constraints, quantities and cost-related data, putting BAGS at the forefront of advanced façade design.
BAGS has developed an extensive in-house design group that works directly with Architects.
Manufacturing
The BAGS team works seamlessly, translating from design to build services with the use of 3D CAD tools. These tools allow the production engineering team to simulate system parts and frames in preparation for production. Data is pulled from the design model to inform the fabrication model, which is then populated with exact parts and frame assemblies, delivering detailed fabrication documentation and an all-inclusive bill-of- materials.
These detailed and automated transition documents from the production engineering team to the fabrication team ensure a high-level of accuracy for fabrication. The data provides cut sheets for the saws, layout of holes and notches, and a full set of instructions for assembly and quality assurance. Additionally, BAGS manufacturing team utilizes this data for advanced planning in preparation for previsualization/preassembly, bunking, and sequencing of materials and frames.
The company manufactures the majority of its projects in the Sacramento based Net Zero facility. The Plant fabricates, assembles and glazes curtain wall units with state-of- the-art automated equipment, machining tools, cranes and modular racking tables. Additionally, BAGS is one of the only glazing contractors in the country with a full-sized in-house testing chamber. This in-house testing and manufacturing allows BAGS to provide better QA/QC, achieve faster fabrication schedules and maintain a coordinated and informed project team.
BAGS latest advances have been in the area of fabrication time-studies, where we are able to bring production full-circle to inform future bidding and planning, through the re-integration of collected data into the 5D CAD components.
Installation
Installation is the final stage in the construction lifecycle, but also the most important. We believe that a successful job is one that has developed an installation strategy long before fabrication and site work commences. The BAGS site leadership team, including the project manager and field superintendents are involved in all phases of the project, from bid to design to manufacturing. This constant review process and feedback loop assures that site specific requirements and installation strategies are planned and implemented.
Each job is unique and every aspect from system design, material sequencing and kitting, to equipment usage must be considered to realize the design intent and budget goals, while working collaboratively with other trades and the general contractor. Safe and effectively performed installations are our specialty due to the decades of experience of our Union Glaziers. These talented men and women have grown through our organization and are fully invested in providing solutions, promoting safety and delivering a quality final product, on-time and on-budget.
Net Zero® Envelope
The Net Zero® Envelope is a flexible aluminum chassis that will seamlessly incorporate multiple sustainable products at once:
- Photovoltaic pre-glazed window and wall panels
- Electrochromic Glass
- Super high R-value VIG glass
- Sun lighting options that allow natural light deep into your building
We started with photovoltaic glass units and developed a simple UL approved wiring system. This flexible system allows us to provide the most energy efficient options in the world. The sustainable electric envelope is not a dream for future generations, it is available now.
The system can be easily installed by any qualified glazier in the United States. Clear instructions for structural, waterproofing and electrical installation are part of the “multi-trade” solution offered with this super green product.
